Guns & Shooting…
As if having a passion for fast cars and motorsport wasn’t enough, you can also add guns and shooting into the mix! And why not, seeing as bullets are very fast and shooting is exciting and great fun. I guess this all harks back to my young childhood when I got my first cowboy outfit – I probably wore it in bed as well? My fascination for guns has never waned and that also no doubt helped to encourage me to join the Armed Forces amongst many other things. If you’re thinking… hang on, fast cars and guns, he must be a villain! Then you’ve been watching too many movies my friend. Besides, there’s no-where to put the guns in the GTR!
Having served in the Armed Forces and been fortunate enough to have been trained in the use of a wide variety of weapons with everything from side arms to surface to air missiles, you could say it’s in my blood or DNA! You might have thought I’d have grown out of this passion and I might of agreed, until I participated in a few corporate events and went shooting with some business associates many years later, that passion re-emerged and was re-ignited so much so, that I went on to join the NRA ( http://www.nra.org.uk/ ) and my local gun club, the 1066 Rifle and Pistol Club ( http://www.1066rifleandpistolclub.co.uk/ ), then subsequently obtained my Firearms Certificate and purchased my own guns. I think some of you would be amazed at just how many guns and shooting enthusiasts there are in the UK, it’s fascinating. And for those of you that have a problem with weapons or guns… a weapon or gun is an inanimate object, much like an ashtray, vase, lamp or even a motorbike or a car. Until a human being operates, drives or takes control of it, it is perfectly safe, it’s the human element that can be the problem. Guns are not dangerous, anyone of sound body and mind can be adequately trained to operate a firearm in a safe and responsible manner.
I don’t shoot in competitions, I shoot just for fun and the pleasure of it. I only participate in target shooting, no hunting or killing anything. And I have to say, It can be quite a challenge to hit a target at 1200 yards, but also very satisfying when you do hit it. I shoot mostly at MOD ranges or NRA Bisley with targets at various ranges from 100 to 1200 yards with other likeminded friendly enthusiasts.
