TWR GTR 2007

The following is a series of photographs and brief notes on everything I’ve done to my GTR and any events I may have participated in during 2007…

April 2007, the TWR Ultima GTR arrives at its new home on the South East Coast

Very few creature comforts in here…

Race 1 7/8” stainless steel ceramic coated exhaust headers (though still gets very hot under there)…

Exhaust header gasket repair – with the rear clip removed… No exhaust header gaskets fitted this time!  This is a controversial point, but I chose not to fit gaskets, with such short header bolts (3/8” unc x ¾” thread), the more thread in the heads the better!

Intermittent belt squeal, note the alternator/water pump belt twisted (pulleys not quite in line)…

Check out the alternator/water pump belt in the pictures and look how close the crank pulley bolt is to the baulk head (right)…

Re-aligning the rear bodywork… Note the different positions of the rear body mounts in the chassis…

The near side appears slightly out of line and appears to be a little distorted, I guess down to wear and tear or age but more likely…extreme heat…

N/S rear clip latch cable sticks, so you need to manually ease it before closing.  Speedo seemed inaccurate, an old Road Angel unit should help…

In August 2007 I did attend the Ultima Sports Factory Open Day at their premises in Hinckley.  It was a lovely summer’s day and turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year.  For me, this was a 400 mile round trip and unfortunately, the TWR GTR suffered serious engine overheating problems which will need further investigation and rectification prior to any further long journey’s!

Even after removing the thermostat and taking the car out on short runs still caused the cooling system to pressurise – a winter project to resolve then!
